Privacy, plainly.

short version: your email, and nothing else.

Reading the site

No ads and no cookies. Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and doesn't track you across sites. Your light/dark choice is saved in your own browser only. The site is served by Cloudflare, which keeps standard server logs to run and protect it.

"Email me when this changes"

This box on some pages is the same newsletter sign-up, with one extra word saved next to your email once you confirm: which topic you asked about (for example "ts7" for TypeScript 7), so that when I re-test that topic I can email the people who asked. Leaving the newsletter removes the topic too.

"Did this fix it?"

Answering adds one to an anonymous yes/no count for that page. So the same person isn't counted twice, a one-way code made from your IP address and the page is kept for 30 days: it can't be turned back into your address, and the address itself isn't stored. If you answer "no" and type a note, the note is kept for 180 days without your name or email, and is read only to decide which case to reproduce next. Your own answer is also remembered in your browser, so the buttons don't ask again.

The newsletter

  • How you join: after you enter your email, you get a link to confirm it. Nothing is stored until you press that link, so nobody can sign you up without your say.
  • What's stored: your email address, the time you confirmed, and the page you signed up from.
  • Where: in this site's own storage on Cloudflare, and in Brevo, the email service that sends the newsletter. Nowhere else.
  • What it's for: one email on Sundays, only in weeks with something new ("What broke this week"). It's never sold or shared.

Remove your email

Enter the address you subscribed with and you'll get a link to confirm the removal, so nobody else can take you off the list. Once you press it, the address is deleted from this site's list and from the newsletter list in Brevo. Every newsletter email also has a one-click unsubscribe link.
